WH Auden's "Shield of Achilles"

I have been teaching Introduction to Mythology at Blythewood High School for six years, and have taught this poem every semester at the conclusion of our Trojan War unit. Auden has long been a favorite of mine, and his reading for hos own poem is outstanding. Notice the juxtaposition of the two strands in the poem! It is rich in allusion and import.
