The Fictional House I Would Like to Live In

I finally got to start reading the current Atlantic magaine. I always start with the last feature, which is a question asked of various famous or knowledgeable people April's question concern fictional houses and which one people would choose to live in:

https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2018/04/q-which-fictional-house-would-you-most-like-to-live-in/554111/

Not that I am likely to be asked for an answer to this or anyone other question, but it got me thinking in which one I would like to live.

My choice is Weatherbury, the house in fictional Wessex created by Thomas Hardy in his fourth novel, Far from the Madding Crowd. But I cheat a little. I picture the manor house more from the 1967 movie than I do form the book. But I suppose that's all right.

The house is up for sale, but I do not have the four million dollars. Too bad! I would love to investitigate all the room, walk the lovely grounds, and find a good pub or two nearby even though there is a brewery on the premises.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2335057/Want-live-Far-From-The-Madding-Crowd-Dorset-mansion-featured-1967-film-classic-Thomas-Hardy-novel-goes-sale-4m.html

If I were to live in the UK, I would live in the West Country, and this certainly is the right location.
But I like where I am now, and that's what really matters.

Warning: This is a Partisan Post

If you have read any of my poetry or posts, you know that I am originally from the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania region. Although I moved from there 54 years ago, my accent, sports preferences, and ethos come from that region.

When I was younger, the area was a Democratic stronghold. ?my family was rock-ribbed Republicans. When we moved to the Philadelphia area, I was even chairman of the local Teen-Age Republicans. I considered myself a liberal Republican; such a thing does not even exist, and has not for some years.

I changed my views, and am a proud Democrat. so did my area of Western Pennsylvania. But that changed last Tuesday. Democrat Colin Lamb, Marine veteran, eked out a narrow win against the incumbent Rick Saccone.

Every so often I sued to be asked by people why I was a Democrat, given that I am a Lutheran pastor and in the military (now a veteran). Without meaning to, Saccone answered that question:

Being a Christian means ascribing to the Ecumenical Creeds, not a political platform. He, and others, elevate a secondary concern to ultimate status (as theologian Paul Tillich would explain it. ) I am proud that the voters of the 18th Congressional District of Pennsylvania rejected him and his views. While these special elections may not carry the same weight as a by-electio
n in the UK, they have assumed more importance over the years here.

   PA 18th, I am proud of you'uns!

On Saturday I read an outstanding poem on Poem-a-Day. It was by Lucie Brock-Broido. the brief biography stated that she had passed away earlier this month. Now when I read her, it will be with sadness.
